Feds outline sustainable development strategy

The federal government yesterday announced $11.3 million in funding to 32 organizations as part of the government’s efforts to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined in the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. A statement said a “whole-of-society approach” will be taken to achieve the SDGs through the government’s new strategy, titled Moving Forward Together – Canada’s 2030 Agenda National Strategy.

Vancouver approves rezoning for Indigenous-led housing project

Vancouver City Council has approved rezoning for a new Indigenous-led housing project featuring more than 160 new homes and 80 new shelter beds along with a social enterprise space. BC Housing, the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society, and the City of Vancouver are partnering on the project.

Calgary and Alberta sign $34 million affordable housing agreement

The City of Calgary and the Alberta government have signed a four-year, $34 million operating and capital funding agreement to enable the continued provision of affordable housing for 1,048 households. The homes are managed by Calgary Housing Company and will enable transition of all city-owned social housing to a mixed-rent model.
