Mississauga’s EX3 tower targeted for geothermal milestone

Mississauga’s EX3 tower targeted for geothermal milestone
CAMROST — In January a crew worked on drilling boreholes to accommodate a geothermal energy system to be developed at the Exchange District community near the Mississauga City Centre.

MISSISSAUGA, ONT. — Ontario-based developer Camrost Felcorp Inc. has announced a construction milestone at its Exchange District community in Mississauga with the completion of drilling of 186 geothermal boreholes.

A geothermal energy system being developed at the community will provide energy to two of the four towers in the development, stated an April 7 release. The project will bring off-grid energy to the rental tenants in the development’s purpose-built rental tower as well as a planned boutique hotel structure, along with the 650 suites in the 66-storey EX3 condominium tower.

The inclusion of EX3 in the power system will make it the tallest residential development in the province to feature geothermal energy, the developer said.

The project is under development off Burnhamthorpe Road East.

The energy project is being overseen by Diverso Energy, which has partnered with several real estate developers across the GTA in recent years on similar systems.

Camrost Felcorp has also announced a partnership with Mitsubishi Electric to use the company’s variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system. VRF provides for simultaneous heating and cooling as well as heat-recovery capabilities not usually found in Class-A commercial settings, the release noted.

The Exchange District will consist of three condominium towers, a rental residence and hotel, and two-million square feet of retail, office and commercial spaces.
