KAMLOOPS, B.C. — In 2020, 151 B.C. workers died from job-related injuries or illness. In Alberta, 150. On April 28, workers and groups around Western Canada will acknowledge them and the many others who have died in recognition of the Day of Mourning.
In B.C., various labour groups and safety groups have organized a remembrance video and a moment of silence that will take place online at 10:30 a.m. Participants can find the event at dayofmourning.bc.ca.
The site also includes a digital dedication wall where mourners can share memories of those who have died.
Other events in B.C. include:
- A wreath laying ceremony and moment of silence at the Worker’s Memorial Statue in Prince George, B.C. at 9:45 a.m.
- A wreath laying ceremony and moment of silence at the Worker’s Memorial beside city hall in Williams Lake, B.C.
- A car parade through downtown Kamloops starting at 5:15 p.m.
In Alberta, the Workers’ Compensation Board urged people to visit their website here to access and share its 2021 Day of Mourning materials.
