WINNIPEG — Manitoba officials have given nearly $700,000 in community-based projects designed to preserve and enhance heritage sites, Sport, Culture and Heritage Minister Cathy Cox announced recently.
“We are pleased to support community organizations and their important work to preserve Manitoba’s historic sites that serve as an educational opportunity for Manitobans and visitors alike, today and for future generations,” said Cox. “We continue to work with community groups, local governments and property owners to protect these links to our province and country’s past while at the same time showcasing the historic connection in communities across the province.”
The grant program provides funding to community groups, volunteer organizations and heritage organizations to support projects that demonstrate a commitment towards the conservation and long-term sustainability of heritage resources that are legally protected under the Heritage Resources Act. Categories for grant application include capital projects, research, conservation planning, education or training, and endowments.
The program’s goal is to encourage new partnerships with community organizations and the private sector to support the long-term sustainability of Manitoba’s heritage infrastructure.
According to the province, a total of 51 projects will receive funding.
