Building permits spike in June 

Statistics Canada reported yesterday that the total value of building permits across Canada rose 6.9 per cent to $10.3 billion in June. Seven provinces contributed to the gain, led by Ontario, which jumped 22.7 per cent. Construction intentions in the residential sector were up 9.1 per cent while the non-residential sector advanced 2.2 per cent. The value of commercial permits rose 7.4 per cent to $1.7 billion. 

 

Community infrastructure for Niagara communities 

The federal and provincial governments yesterday announced joint funding for four recreational and community infrastructure projects in Ontario’s Niagara Region. The Government of Canada is allocating $2.4 million to the projects through the Community, Culture and Recreation Stream of the Investing in Canada plan, the Government of Ontario is providing $2 million while recipients are spending another $1.6 million. Projects will be funded for St. Catharines, Pelham, Wainfleet and Lincoln. 

 

H&R REIT signs deals in Calgary, Mississauga 

H&R REIT announced on Aug. 3 that it has entered into divestment agreements involving the two-million-square-foot Bow office tower located in Calgary and the 1.1-million-square-foot Bell office campus in Mississauga. Proceeds from the sale of its interest in the facilities add up to $1.47 billion.  

 

Constellation signs deal with Epcon 

Constellation HomeBuilder Systems based in Markham, Ont. today announced a new relationship with Epcon Franchising, the largest homebuilding franchise in the United States. Epcon is active in the development of 55-plus communities across the U.S. Epcon franchisees will now have access to Constellation’s integrated construction management system, BuildTopia.
