KELOWNA, B.C.—B.C. Highway Patrol investigators are searching for anyone who witnessed a recent construction site theft that occurred in early August.
They believe the incident is connected to a series of similar thefts over the last several months in Kelowna and surrounding area.
According to officers, on Aug. 4 at approximately 10:30 a.m., B.C. Highway Patrol saw a black Ford F150 pickup truck parked in an industrial area near Edwards Road at Acland Road in Kelowna.
The truck matched the description of a vehicle connected to suspects police believe broke into construction sites to steal materials. The car was loaded with sheet lumber.
The officer spoke with the driver, a man in his 40s who is known to police. The man was not able to provide proof of ownership of the lumber. The truck was towed and the lumber was seized for safe keeping. Police are attempting to locate the lawful owner and believe the theft occurred on the morning of Aug. 4 between 4 and 6 a.m.
The price of lumber has fluctuated widely during the past few months. Experts said this has likely been to massive increase in demand and supply chain issues.
