McNaughton in Sudbury to announce construction training
Ontario Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development Monte McNaughton will be in Sudbury today to announce free training to help address the skilled trades shortage in northern Ontario. In the first quarter of 2021, there were 13,380 job vacancies in the construction sector in Ontario.
Hamilton Juravinski Hospital opens stem cell unit
Hamilton Health Sciences’ Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre has announced the opening of the expanded Ron and Nancy Clark Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapies Unit. The Ontario government allocated $25 million for the upgrade, which included 15 new inpatient beds, five new treatment bays for day patients and two lounge areas for family and friends equipped with kitchens.
Canadian Tire invests in inland BC port company
Canadian Tire Corporation yesterday signed an investment agreement with Ashcroft Terminal Limited of British Columbia to acquire a 25-per-cent equity interest in the company. Ashcroft is an inland port facility located 300 kilometres east of Vancouver. It is the only major privately owned industrial property in Canada where both Class 1 railroad lines, Canadian National Railway and Canadian Pacific Railway, run through.
Mississauga issues stormwater bulletin
The City of Mississauga has issued a bulletin promoting awareness of its five-year-old Stormwater Charge. The municipality owns more than $5.2 billion in stormwater infrastructure, including 1,900 kilometres of underground storm sewer pipes, 51,000 storm drains, 270 kilometres of ditches, 150 kilometres of creeks and 81 stormwater management facilities. The city has implemented a Stormwater Credit program for multi-residential and non-residential property owners who implement their own stormwater management practices on their property.
