TORONTO—A cyclist was struck by cement truck travelling along Avenue Road near Bloor Street West in Toronto, police reported Wednesday (Aug. 18).
The incident occurred at around 6:10 p.m. Toronto Police and Toronto Medics attended the scene. At 6:36 p.m. the Toronto Police Twitter page indicated the cyclist suffered life threatening injuries and that officers had shut down the intersection. Minutes later the report was updated to say the male cyclist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on scene. Traffic services was investigating the scene.
According to media reports, the man was cycling in the northbound curb lane and was hit by a truck travelling in the same direction. There was no bike lane on the road. He was 18 years old and starting university in the fall.
