Federal campaign leaders update

Today, day eight of the federal election campaign, the Canadian Press reports that Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau will be making an announcement at a collaborative health education centre at Dalhousie University in Halifax and will be in St. John’s, N.L. later in the day. NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh will make an announcement on climate change and later will visit local businesses in Montreal. Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole will host an event in Ottawa in the morning and later will hold two telephone town halls with Ottawa and Manitoba candidates respectively.

John Deere to acquire JV factory in B.C.

John Deere announced Aug. 19 it has agreed with Hitachi Construction Machinery to transform their existing joint-venture manufacturing and marketing agreements, with the firms entering into new licence and supply agreements. As a result of the new agreements, pending regulatory approval, John Deere will acquire the Deere-Hitachi joint-venture factory in Langley, B.C. as well as factories in North Carolina and Brazil as of next Feb. 28.

CPP Investment Board buys into U.S. water systems firm

The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board announced Aug. 20 it has invested US$350 million in Ohio-based Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc., increasing its total ownership stake in the company to 4.6 per cent. ADS is a provider of water management systems in the stormwater and on-site septic wastewater industries for use in the construction and agriculture marketplace. ADS operates a global network of 60 manufacturing plants and 30 distribution centres and is said to be the second largest plastic recycler in North America.
