BUILDEX plans hybrid events for B.C., Alberta

VANCOUVER — As Canada continues to weather the COVID-19 pandemic, things are getting at least slightly more normal.

This year’s offering of BUILDEX events in Western Canada will feature a mixture of online programming as well as in person micro events for B.C. and Alberta. The events will take place from Sept. 27 to Sept. 29.

One of the key themes will be addressing issues facing construction workers, changing worker places and the shifting nature of work itself, organizers said.

Another theme will be tackling the climate emergency in a variety of ways, including mass timber construction retrofits, embodied carbon and high-performance buildings.

Digitization and industrialization will also be featured with sessions that explore how design, construction and real estate are being transformed by technology, automation and mechanization in the built environment.

Some of the featured online programming includes Changing Workplaces and Workplace Strategy. The session will include analysis from experts in interior design, workplace consulting, real estate consulting and corporate workplace strategy. The panel will chat about the impact of COVID-19 on employer expectations, global workplace strategy trends.

Adaptive Reuse of Existing Buildings, another featured session, will look at the challenges facing adaptive reuse projects like regulatory barriers, financing challenges and common oversights.

But BUILDEX doesn’t plan to be online for good. Its Vancouver show is currently scheduled to return to its in-person format in February 16 to 17, 2022.

“Once again, attendees can look forward to making in person connections, sharing knowledge and exploring the newest products as we raise the bar on safety, hygiene, and high-quality event experiences,” said organizers in a press release.
