Former Kiewit CEO remembered for philanthropic efforts
KIEWIT - Former Kiewit CEO and billionaire Walter Scott Jr. has died at age 90.

OMAHA, NEB. – Billionaire and former Peter Kiewit Sons Inc. CEO Walter Scott Jr. has died at 90 years old.

According to an obituary, Scott began working for the construction firm as an engineer. By 1964 he was on the board and one year later he was named executive vice-president.

He became chairman and CEO of the company in 1979, a position he held until 1998.

As Scott’s fortune grew and he became a billionaire, he became known for his philanthropy in Omaha, Neb. – where Kiewit has its headquarters.

He frequently donated to the University of Nebraska at Omaha, the University of Nebraska Medical Center, the Joslin Art Museum and the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, among others. Scott promised to give the bulk of his fortune to the Suzanne & Walter Scott Foundation upon his death.

“Today we reflect on the life of former Kiewit chairman and CEO Walter Scott, Jr., grateful for his many contributions to the Kiewit organization,” stated Kiewit. “Walter passed away this week at the age of 90. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Scott family and all who knew and loved Walter.”
