A 35-year-old flagger is in hospital with serious injuries after a train collided with a truck in Langley, B.C. early Monday morning, police said.
“There is construction in the area (Langley By-Pass and Glover Road), and witnesses advise a flagperson had parked a flag vehicle immediately on the tracks,” Langley RCMP said in a release.
“A northbound train approached and the gate arms descended onto the roof of the truck. The flagperson ran to the vehicle and attempted to quickly move it to safety.
“Unfortunately, the train struck the vehicle pushing it approximately 30 meters down the tracks where it collided with a BC Hydro transformer box.”
The flagperson, who is a resident of Abbotsford, B.C., was extracted t from the vehicle and taken by air ambulance to hospital for treatment of “serious but non-life threatening injuries.”
