A worker at an asphalt-shingle manufacturing company in southeast Calgary has died on the job.

Shawn Herbert Coffey, 42, was working at IKO Industries, a manufacturer of asphalt shingles, when the incident happened. He and another worker were changing a circuit in an electrical panel when one of them touched a live wire. Paramedics found Coffey, a foreman, in cardiac arrest after he came in contact with about 5,000 volts of electricity.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, reported Calgary police. The other man was taken to hospital with cardiac-related problems and minor burns to his face and hands. He has since been released from hospital.

The Calgary Police Service and Occupational Health are investigating the cause of the workplace fatality.
