Manitoba builders work with province to advance construction program

Manitoba builders work with province to advance construction program

WINNIPEG, MAN. — The Manitoba Heavy Construction Association (MHCA) is working with Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure (MTI) to see the full 2022 construction program tendered and awarded expeditiously.

The MHCA announced it has finished its review of the tenders advertised to date by MTI for the structures and water infrastructure programs this year. The review, passed along to the department, indicates challenges in seeing the full program out, awarded and projects completed by the end of the year.

MHCA added the department has committed to working toward the goal, noting that weather and flooding this spring have made for difficult conditions and pressures on department resources.

“We have good conversations with senior MTI administration and we are grateful the department works with the association and industry to meet our common goals,” MHCA president Chris Lorenc said.

Lorenc added the goal is better service for Manitobans, and the impact of a cold winter and this spring’s near record rainfall shows there is considerable work to be done to maintain roads and to ensure the integrity of culverts and bridges.

“We will keep industry updated as to the status of our talks with the province,” he said.
