Chinese crane firm claims new hoisting record
XCMG — The Chinese-manufactured XCA 2600 crane lifted and installed an 8.5-megawatt wind turbine recently at the Changyi Wind Farm, setting a hoisting record for the largest onshore wind power generator.

WEIFANG, China — Chinese crane manufacturing firm XCMG has announced its XCA 2600 model has set a hoisting record in Shandong province.

The XCA 2600 lifted and installed an 8.5-megawatt wind turbine recently at the Changyi Wind Farm, setting what is claimed to be a hoisting record for the largest onshore wind power generator.

The XCA 2600, the world’s first all-terrain crane to have a 10-axle chassis, has a lower crane body that can protect the equipment when it’s operating at wind power plants, stated a release.

Because of this, when encountering low-altitude power lines, it can pass through safely. The more compact body, coupled with a wider chassis and independent suspension system, improves the crane’s safety and stability, the firm says.

XCMG’s twin mechanism features two 2,600-tonne mega cranes with different lifting capabilities that can switch freely, from crawler base or mobile base.

The XCA 2600 telescopic crawler can carry six main boom sections, legs and superlift structure, with the ability to transport a 40-tonne counterweight and 457-tonne total weight. It has a 30 per cent climbing ability and a driving speed of two kilometres/hour.

In the past decade, XCMG has developed mobile cranes with increasingly strong hoisting capability every two years, progressing from the XCA1200 to XCA1600 to XCA1800 to XCA2600.

“The rapid development of wind power technologies necessitates hoisting equipment that can lift heavier weights to higher heights while guaranteeing transportation efficiency and safety, and as such XCMG is committed to developing the best super cranes,” stated XCMG technical expert Li Changqing in a statement.
