BOTTLETOP BRIDGE, B.C. — Highway 5, also known as the Coquihalla, has reopened to four lanes after reaching a major milestone.
Temporary repairs have been completed at the Bottletop, Jessica and Juliet bridge sites, states a release.
The bridge at the Juliet site is open for northbound traffic and will serve as the permanent southbound crossing once further permanent work is completed. The repairs were completed by KEA5, a joint venture between Peter Kiewit & Sons and Emil Anderson Construction.
The Coquihalla was closed on Nov. 14, 2021 after severe rains and flooding washed out parts of the highway.
Permanent repairs to the Othello section of the highway have been completed including replacing and enlarging culverts to better handle future flooding, repairs of 460 metres of southbound lanes, widening of shoulders and barrier replacement, reinstating the roadside barrier and spillway.
Work will continue through the winter on permanent repairs, states the release.
