Construction begins on $52 million St. Vital Bridge Rehabilitation

WINNIPEG — Long-term construction on the St. Vital Bridge in Winnipeg has begun.

“The St. Vital Bridge Rehabilitation Project will breathe new life into the existing bridge over the Red River and will improve travel through the area for drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and transit users,” writes the City of Winnipeg in a news release.

Phase one of the roughly $52 million project is scheduled to last from March until November 2023. The second phase will commence right after and continue until October 2024.

There will be extended traffic disruptions throughout the project but one lane going in each direction will remain open.

During phase one, the east deck sidewalk will be accessible for pedestrians. Phase two will see the west deck sidewalk open and the east closed.
