VANDERHOOF, B.C. — The Blackwater Mine near Vanderhoof, B.C. has been approved with the first gold pour scheduled for the second half of 2024.

The project is located 112 kilometres southwest of Vanderhoof and will create approximately 825 full-time jobs per year during the construction and expansion phase and 450 full-time jobs per year during its 22-year operating life, states a news release from the provincial government.

“The Blackwater Gold project will put lots of people to work and create a wide range of opportunities and benefits for local businesses, communities and First Nations, while ensuring the highest standards of environmental protection, mitigation and sustainability,” said Premier David Eby in the release.

The mine is expected to contribute $13.2 billion to the provincial economy and $2.3 billion in provincial revenue.
