VANCOUVER — April is Construction and Skilled Trades Month in British Columbia, a time for everyone to appreciate one of the province’s most vital industries.
“We’re of course doing our lunchbox challenges again and they’re fully subscribed, which is fantastic,” said British Columbia Construction Association (BCCA) president Chris Atchison.
Monday, April 3 kicks off the celebrations with the Vancouver Regional Construction Association’s Contractors Breakfast at 7 a.m.
“Donna and her team there will be hosting a number of member contractors to officially launch construction in skilled trades month and I’ll be there,” Atchison said.
“Each week, the breakfast is being hosted in another region. So, week two will be in the Okanagan, week three will be in the north and the final week will be here on the island.”

Returning is the #lunchboxchallenge for employers to treat their crews to a free lunch. Employers can apply for a grant of either $250 or $500 to help cover costs based on the size of the crew. Even if the 100 available grants are taken, the BCCA encourages people to continue to submit in case any cancellations open funds up.
The BCCA has also put out several posters and encourages people to print and display them to demonstrate support for construction and skilled trades workers.
The VRCA will be hosting their legacy luncheon on April 6 to celebrate long-time members of the association.
On April 12, the Building Possibilities: Women in Construction Networking event will take place creating an opportunity for the burgeoning number of women in the industry to share experiences and build connections.
The Vancouver Island Construction Association’s 2023 awards and conference is set to take place on April 14 and will announce some of the outstanding individuals, companies and projects that helped define the 2022 construction year in B.C.
The BCCA is hosting an invite-only leadership dinner on April 19, so keep an eye on your inbox for a potential invitation and the MLA Lunch is scheduled for April 20 in Victoria.
There will also be a series of webinars throughout the month designed around different aspects of the industry.
