Construction begins on new $7.8 million Strathcona pump station

VANCOUVER, B.C. — The City of Vancouver is set to begin construction on the new $7.8 million Raymur Pump Station in Stratchona this week.

The original pump station was built in 1962 and is due for retirement, according to a news release.

This is the first of four pump station replacements or upgrades taking place across the city. Planning and design for pumps at Dunbar, Jericho and Thornton are underway.

Work on the Raymur station is expected to last until fall 2024.

Southeast corner access to Strathcona Park will be closed throughout construction and Raymur Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic at Malkin Avenue.

“Vancouver’s pump stations are critical for safely and reliably managing sewage ‘round-the-clock for our residents and businesses,” said Mayor Ken Sim in the release.

“This and other capital-funded pump station upgrade projects are key to ensuring our infrastructure is well-managed and resilient into the future.”
