SMITHERS, B.C. — A prefabricated school and gymnasium in Smithers, B.C. will give francophone students a temporary home for learning while a larger and permanent structure is considered.
The Government of British Columbia has provided the Conseil Scolaire Francophone de la Colombia-Britannique with $5 million for the prefabricated, five-unit structure and previously gave $2.1 million to purchase the land.
École élémentaire La Grande-ourse will be located at the southeastern corner of Vancouver Street and Third Avenue.
“I am pleased to see funding now in place to construct a prefabricated school for students and their families while plans for a permanent home are made,” said Minister of Education and Child Care Rachna Singh in a news release.
