Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating unveils strategy for future growth

Patricia Williams

The Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating (CIPH) is developing a strategy to raise awareness of the industry as a whole in the eyes of potential recruits, regulators and legislators.

The Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating (CIPH) is developing a strategy to raise awareness of the industry as a whole in the eyes of potential recruits, regulators and legislators.

“One of the anticipated outcomes would be attracting new recruits to our industry because of opportunities that we can collectively provide to them to make positive environment influences,” said chair Kevin Fullan, vice-president and general manager of Flocor Inc. of Stoney Creek, Ont.

Speaking at a meeting during the annual conference of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC), Fullan said the institute found it most gratifying to work with the contractors’ association to promote World Plumbing Day last March.

“We believe that we made significant gains in raising the profile of not only World Plumbing Day, but also that of both MCAC and CIPH on a regional and national level and with the various governments across Canada for being responsible and important organizations.”

Fullan said the two organizations continue to have a proud, long standing and healthy relationship.

“Trade shows and collaborating on codes and standards continue to bring us together.” said Fullan, who is active in MCAC’s associate member council, as well as the Canadian Mechanical Contracting Education Foundation.

He said CIPH has also gone on record with the federal government in supporting prompt payment legislation.

“This affects the entire (suppliers’) channel and CIPH was proud to support the National Trade Contractors Coalition of Canada in this effort,” he said.

Fullan said CIPH and MCAC agree that they need to continue to prompt their respective regional boards and zones to meet at least once annually.

They will address many issues, including youth recruitment, dealing with non-compliant products, joint training programs on procurement and helping the mechanical contractors’ association grow its service division.

CIPH represents the interests of companies that manufacture, sell, and distribute plumbing, hydronic heating and related products and services.

The CIPH is a not-for-profit trade association founded in 1933. CIPH members are located right across Canada and employ more than 10,000 Canadians.
