TORONTO — The United Jewish Appeal (UJA) Federation of Greater Toronto has announced plans for the Honey and Barry Memorial Arena, which will be connected to the Schwartz/Reisman Centre in Vaughan, Ont.
The project is being funded by Jonathan Sherman, the son of murdered philanthropists Honey and Barry Sherman. The funding fully supports construction of the arena and will also include subsidies to help families of modest means participate in arena programs.
Anticipated to open in 2025, the arena will consist of a twin ice pad facility suitable for a range of ice activities.
“Honey and Barry, of blessed memory, were exceptional leaders whose impact continues to be felt throughout the Greater Toronto Jewish community,” said Jeff Rosenthal, chair of the UJA Federation, in a statement. “We are immensely grateful to Jonathon for this generous gift to the community in honour of his parents’ legacy. From our experiences working with Honey and Barry, we know that this is certainly something they would be very proud of.”
