OAK BLUFF, MAN. — The Government of Manitoba is moving ahead with a plan to twin a 6.7 kilometre section of Provincial Trunk Highway 3.
The project has entered the functional design study phase to twin a portion of the highway starting 1.6 kilometres east of Provincial Trunk Highway (PTH) 100 to the City of Winnipeg’s limit, states a news release.
The project includes the functional design study, land acquisition and utility relocations, intersection analysis and the reconstruction of PTH 3 into a four-lane divided highway from its current state as a two-lane undivided highway.
The government is also in the process of a refined design for a new diamond interchange at PTH 3 and PTH 100 near McGillivray Boulevard.
In its release, the government notes Manitoba is approaching a population of one million and has seen extensive development in recent years.
“Twinning this busy section of the highway will offer an improved level of service to commuters, travelers and commercial vehicles. We remain firmly committed to critical infrastructure investments that deliver enhances safety, ease of transport, and support the movement of goods and services across Manitoba,” said Doyle Piwniuk, minister of transportation and infrastructure, in the release.
