TORONTO — The Hazel McCallion Line construction around the Port Credit GO station in Mississauga, Ont. will see reconstruction work along Mary Fix Creek, the restoration of 30 parking spots and a new Eaglewood Bridge, a Metrolinx blog states.
The work, which is nearing completion, will improve flood protection and provide better traffic flow.
Running from Old River Road to the Credit River, Mary Fix Creek is vital to preventing floods and erosion near the Port Credit GO, states a release.
Work crews are reconstructing 400 metres of the creek bed from just north of Old River Road to the station, a critical stretch for flood protection, where the creek flows through a concrete-lined channel.
“The new design is going to be wider and deeper which will provide additional flood control with up-to-date hydraulic modelling, improved safety and resilience, all while protecting the community from significant storm damage,” indicates the Metrolinx blog.
To date, around 325 metres are complete and the remainder is expected to be finished this year.
Construction of Eaglewood Bridge, a new bridge over the creek from Eaglewood Boulevard to Oriole Avenue, is also complete. It aims to enhance traffic flow and offer better co-ordination with the LRT guideway on Hurontario Street.
It will be commissioned and open to the public once the design for new traffic signals is in place.
