TORONTO — Ontario’s Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development has released details of two incidents of worker electrocution on construction sites in July including one death.
The mishaps were previously reported by the Electrical Safety Authority.
On July 4, the MOL was notified of an incident that occurred at a residence in Flamborough. It was reported that a worker was fatally injured while operating tools.
The employer is Europa Concrete and Interlocking Inc. Two ministry inspectors attended the scene.
On July 13, the ministry was notified of an incident at a construction project located in Fonthill.
It was reported a worker was electrocuted and fell from a ladder. A ministry inspector and engineer attended the scene.
The next day, two orders and one requirement were issued to the constructor, Rinaldi Homes (Niagara) Inc., and three orders and one requirement were issued to the employer, Adept Window Cleaning Ltd.
On July 25, two more requirements were issued to the employer, Adept Window Cleaning Ltd.
The Electrical Safety Authority reports August is the most lethal month for powerline contacts with the highest number of fatal incidents among both the general public and on job sites. Between 2012 and 2021 there were 19 fatalities and 1,393 overhead powerline contacts in Ontario.
