Manitoba moving to increase Indigenous involvement in Centre Village redevelopment

Manitoba moving to increase Indigenous involvement in Centre Village redevelopment

WINNIPEG – The Government of Manitoba is taking steps to increase Indigenous participation in the redevelopment of Centre Village at 575 Balmoral St. in Winnipeg.

The government has also identified $2.2 million in capital funding and the land and buildings as in-kind contributions.

“We are committed to providing Indigenous organizations with opportunities to partner in delivering social and affordable housing to Manitobans in need. We will be allocating funding and providing in-kind contributions to the Centre Village project to provide proponents with additional resources to redevelop the site for much-needed social housing,” provincial Families Minister Rochelle Squires said in a statement.

Manitoba Housing will proceed with issuing a public negotiated request for proposals (NRFP) with a more inclusive definition of “Indigenous organization” and project funding, which will allow more Indigenous organizations to qualify and participate in the redevelopment process, a government release stated.

Complete details of the NRFP are available here. The submission deadline is Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. CT.
