WorkSafeBC holding virtual asbestos training and certification sessions

VANCOUVER – WorkSafeBC, the Province of British Columbia’s safety regulator, is holding two virtual sessions for asbestos abatement workers to learn mandatory requirements implemented by the organization to ensure worker safety.

As of Jan. 1, 2024 anyone performing asbestos abatement work must complete mandatory safety training and obtain certificates.

The sessions, held Sept. 13 from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. PT, and on Oct. 5 from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. PT, will cover the basics of asbestos abatement certification, how to find a training provider, what to expect in assessments and exams, what previous training may be recognized and what accommodations training providers are required to make.

WorkSafeBC certification services manager Tim Loblaw will be the presenter at both sessions, which will feature a Q&A section in addition to the presentations.

Those interested can register here and will receive an email reminder and login instructions in advance of their selected session.

More information on asbestos abatement requirements is available at WorkSafeBC.
