A man was killed at a ready-mix concrete plant in South Vancouver this morning after being buried in a pile of gravel.
"The Vancouver Police contacted us this morning about an incident at the Lafarge plant," said Donna Freeman, spokesperson for WorkSafeBC.
“Our investigation officers were sent out just before 9 a.m. They are still at the site gathering information.”
Freeman said the incident involved gravel being delivered to Lafarge by a subcontractor named Mainland Group Contracting.
“The worker was in the process of dumping a load of gravel and was behind the truck,” she said. “For some reason, the tail gate opened up and dumped gravel on the worker. We are still on site and will be ceasing the truck.”
Lafarge confirmed that the fatality involved a subcontractor’s employee. The fatality occurred at the Lafarge plant located at 268 Kent Avenue South.
At this point in the investigation no further details can be confirmed.
