MISSISSAUGA, ONT. — Indwell, a Christian charity, recently purchased a vacant lot in Mississauga, Ont. to develop into 50 units of affordable supportive housing.
The lot, located at 1639 Lakeshore Rd. W. in Clarkson Village will be the site of Indwell’s third community in the city.
The 68-unit Lakeshore Lofts in Port Credit opened in early 2022. A second program, currently under construction, will open in Streetsville in 2024.
The building will be constructed to the Passive House standard with shared common spaces. Initial concepts include an outdoor patio overlooking Turtle Creek.
“We all know about the deep need for much more supportive housing in Peel Region,” said Jeff Neven, Indwell’s CEO, in a statement. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to help meet this need with another deeply affordable housing program and we look forward to developing this empty lot into a vibrant community that will also benefit the neighbourhood. It’s not just about putting a roof over someone’s head; it’s about creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for more people to call home.”
