Team Ontario wins 38 medals at Skills Canada National Competition

ONTARIO — Team Ontario took home 38 medals at the 2024 Skills Canada National Competition in Quebec City recently. 

The medals were presented at a closing ceremony June 1 following the competition. Team Ontario took home nine gold, 16 silver and 13 bronze medals.

The following includes the winners from the construction trades from secondary and post-secondary institutions:

  • Jillian Haak, silver, architectural technology and design, Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board
  • Ana Teske, bronze architectural technology and design, Fanshawe College
  • Cameron Krause, silver, bricklaying, Conestoga College
  • Luke De Sousa, bronze, cabinetmaking, Waterloo Catholic District School Board
  • Caleb Dyck, gold, carpentry, Trillium Lakelands District School Board
  • Simon Duncan, bronze, carpentry, Fanshawe College
  • Ryle Reynolds, bronze, CNC Machining, Georgian College
  • Cole Hunter, gold, mechatronics, Humber College
  • Grant Maddock, gold, mechatronics, Humber College
  • Mohammad Mohammad, gold, mechanical engineering, Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board
  • Aidan Crandall, silver, outdoor power and recreation equipment, Georgian College
  • Evan Lafontaine, silver, precision machining, Conseil Scolaire Catholique du Nouvel-Ontario
  • Nathan Orr, bronze, precision machining, St. Lawrence College
  • Carl Naumann, silver, sprinkler fitter, UA Local 853

Team Ontario is represented by the top competitors advancing from the 2024 Skills Ontario Competition which took place earlier in May at the Toronto Congress Centre. At the National level, these competitors competed against the best skilled trade and technology competitors from across the country.

In September 2023 Team Ontario members Paxton Coghlin and Dillon Kong for mechatronics from Humber College and Ethan McCallum for CNC Machining from Georgian College,  will be representing Canada at WorldSkills in Lyon, France in 2024.

“We are proud of the hard work and results from Team Ontario,” said Ian Howcroft, CEO of Skills Ontario in a statement. “Advancing to the National level is a massive achievement on its own, and we congratulate all our competitors for their success. These young people have dedicated lots of time and effort into developing their skills, and it’s important that we support and celebrate our youth who are pursuing these fields.”
