TORONTO — Preliminary work is well underway on Highway 413, Premier Doug Ford reported recently on social media.

Ford visited the site last week and reported crews are onsite drilling and testing the soil. Bridges and interchanges are also being designed.

The highly contested highway will run across some of the fastest growing areas in the GTA including in York Region, Peel and Halton. Construction is expected to start early next year. The proposed 52-kilometre highway and transitway will include extensions to Highways 410 and 427.

“Crews are currently onsite flying in drilling equipment by helicopter to test soil and bedrock conditions,” said Ford in an Instagram video.

“It’s great to see first-hand how the crew is drilling boreholes and assessing the sample conditions. This step is critical as we move forward into our next phase of designing the bridges that will cross the Humber Valley.”

During construction, Highway 413 is expected to contribute $350 million to the province’s real GDP and support 3,500 jobs each year, such as heavy equipment operators, drilling and coring contractors, concrete and steel workers, utility contractors, environmental specialists, laboratory technologists and safety inspectors.
