KING CITY, ONT. — A construction worker is dead following an incident on a King City, Ont. jobsite.
According to media reports, a construction crew was digging on King Road, between Jane and Keele streets, when the rain started filling up the trench they were working on with water.
York Regional Police (YRP) responded to a call for an industrial accident at 6:24 p.m. July 30 in the area of King Road and Peter Glass Road.
“When we arrived there was a worker that had fallen into a ditch of water and was fully submerged,” a YRP spokesperson said in an email to the Daily Commercial News. “He was pulled out, however was pronounced deceased.”
The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development was notified and has taken over the investigation. YRP is unable to comment further at this time, the spokesperson said.
The MLTSD said three orders and two requirements were issued to the employer, Aecon Utilities Inc.
