Construction underway on new Prince Edward County hospital

PICTON, ONT. — Ground has officially been broken and construction is underway to build the new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital in Picton, Ont.

To date, the Ontario government has provided $10 million in capital funding to build the hospital.

The new facility will include 23 in-patient beds; a larger, 24/7 emergency department that will provide more space for staff and patients; modern surgical suites to deliver care with the best technology available; dialysis treatments and diagnostic imaging; and outpatient care services including minor surgical procedures such as endoscopies.

“Today, after years of advocacy and planning, we put our shovels in the ground together to build a state-of-the-art hospital for Prince Edward County,” said Todd Smith, MPP for Bay of Quinte, in a statement. “I’m grateful to Quinte Health for its leadership and the many Back the Build partners who rose to the challenge in support of this project. Our Minister of Health Sylvia Jones has recognized this steadfast determination, and our government has given its approval for construction. I’m very much looking forward to the grand opening.”
