Fire breaks out at multi-storey building in Toronto

TORONTO — A large fire broke out at a building in Toronto’s east end this morning (Sept. 18).

The fire sent smoke billowing into the area above the multi-storey building, located at 800 Broadview Ave., north of Danforth Ave.

Media reports indicate the building is a condominium under construction.

The incident occurred this morning at 9:30 a.m. Toronto Fire Services was called to the scene.

“There were workers onsite reportedly when we arrived,” a Toronto Fire spokesperson told the Daily Commercial News. “There were flames and smoke visible when they arrived from the roof area. Our crews got there and tried to put it out as quickly as possible.”

Crews were able to get the blaze under control.

“At this point they do have the fire managed,” said the spokesperson after noon. “It’s not declared under control as of yet but they’re well past the point of actively fighting it. They’re just looking at hot spots right now. Crews are doing walk throughs to make sure the temperatures are staying down.”

There were no reports of any injuries.
