RED DEER, ALTA. – A CPR Pedestrian Bridge Rehabilitation project in Red Deer, Alta. has been awarded to Graham.
As the general contractor, Graham will oversee construction, which is scheduled to begin in this month and is expected to be completed by August 2026.
The project aims to restore the historic CPR Pedestrian Bridge over the Red Deer River, explains a release from the company.
The bridge is now over 100 years old and many of its components have deteriorated, leading to the need for rehabilitation.
The work includes:
- Reconstruction of the timber trestle
- Replacement of concrete foundations
- Repair and replacement of corroded steel truss elements
- Removal of existing lead paint and repainting of steel trusses
- Replacement of the timber deck with a new concrete surface
- Installation of upgraded pedestrian-level lighting on and around the bridge
- Public realm improvements.
“This project will enhance the bridge’s safety, accessibility, and long-term viability while preserving its historic character,” states the release.
