APN2025: Building for People conference taking place in March

VANCOUVER The Rick Hansen Foundation has announced the 2025 Accessibility Professional Network (APN) Conference APN2025 Building for People will take place virtually and in person in Vancouver, B.C. on March 27 and 28.

Presented by Accessible Employers and Vancouver International Airport, the event brings together industry leaders, innovators and advocates to champion the importance of creating accessible spaces for people of all ages and abilities.

APN2025 will bring together leaders in all levels of government, individuals working in Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity (DE&I), APN members and corporate leaders, explains a release.

This year’s theme is Building for People and will encourage attendees to explore accessibility holistically from the perspective of the users at the centre — “to think about how someone truly uses a site, going beyond minimum requirements and current practices to create a truly inclusive world,” the release adds.

With one-in-four Canadians living with a disability and an aging population, the demand for accessible spaces is surging. Recent trends in the built environment show a growing commitment to accessibility, driven by policy advancements, public awareness and innovative design solutions. The APN2025 conference will serve as a platform to celebrate these advancements, share knowledge and inspire action.

“Accessibility isn’t just about compliance—it’s about creating environments where everyone can thrive,” said Matthew Shaw, head accessibility practice at the Rick Hansen Foundation. “Year after year we are in awe of business leaders who come together at this conference to lend their voices to this important topic. Organizations that are embracing innovation and committing to a higher standard to ensure that accessibility becomes the norm, not the exception.”

Registration is now open online and the full program and speaker lineup is also available.
