Construction underway on La Crete Maternity and Community Health Centre

LA CRETE, ALTA. — Work is progressing on the new La Crete Maternity and Community Health Centre in the rural community of La Crete.

The Alberta government first announced the project in 2021, with planning for the new facility beginning at that time and the design phase being completed in early February of this year. The construction phase of the project will see Alberta’s government invest $80 million over the next three years as part of a total investment of about $86 million for the project, a release explains.

The facility will include a birthing centre, midwifery program, advanced ambulatory care and a two-vehicle ambulance bay.

In addition to the existing public health services, residents will have access to expanded services including pre- and post-natal care onsite.

The facility is expected to open in 2027 and will also include a laboratory for timely blood testing and storage, as well as diagnostic imaging services, including ultrasound, the release continues. Dedicated space will be available for counselling and psychiatrist referrals to support individuals, families and groups.

It’s anticipated the new facility will provide integrated health services for about 9,200 people living in La Crete and the surrounding areas.
