TORONTO — The City of Toronto has expanded its Certified Plans Program as a way to builds homes faster, it says. The program enables builders and designers to reuse an approved design without repeating the full permit review process.
The program also allows applicants to have a proposed building design reviewed for compliance with the Ontario Building Code for the purpose of repeated use, explains a release.
Once certified, it can be used multiple times.
Site-specific reviews, such as zoning compliance, are still required for all permit applications, the city notes.
The expanded program now includes:
- Housing projects including detached houses, semi-detached houses, townhouses and multiplexes
- Laneway and garden suites
- Solar domestic hot water systems.
The city is also welcoming eligible building types to be constructed using modular or prefabricated methodology.
More information is available on the city’s website.
