COURTICE, ONT. — Construction for the new 192-bed Muslim Welfare Centre of Toronto Long Term Care Home – Courtice is well underway with representatives recently marking the occasion with a groundbreaking ceremony.
The four-storey, 150,000-square-foot project was a recipient of the Construction Funding Subsidy top-up, part of the Ontario government’s commitment to build 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds across the province.
The home is expected to welcome its first residents in fall 2027 and its design is centered around six “resident home areas,” which is meant to create a more intimate and familiar living space for up to 32 residents, with dining and activity areas, lounges and living spaces.

It is being constructed by JR Certus Construction and is located at 1589 Highway 2 in Courtice. It features a composite steel-concrete structure, with exterior metal and fibre cement siding and brick veneer. The architect on the project is Snyder Architects Inc.
The home will have amenities like a café, family dining spaces, a multi-purpose hall, a beauty salon, barber services and a place of worship. Residents will also be able to enjoy a garden with a walking loop and balconies from each of the resident home areas.
The home will be operated by Muslim Welfare Canada.
