Bird Construction secures DCC contracts

Daily Commercial News

Over the past six years, the Bird Construction Co. Ltd., headquartered in Toronto, has secured $107 million in contracts from Defence Construction Canada.

Of that sum, about $60 million has been in Ontario.

“We are very focused,” said Mark McLaren, Bird Construction’s business development manager.

“(The DCC) are very good clients. We like to work with them so we make sure that we put in an extra effort any time that we have an opportunity to bid or put in a proposal.

“They certainly expect high quality work and they are tough and firm about what they want. We really look at it as being a partner in the projects that we work for them on.”

To further enhance the “partnering” philosophy, Bird Construction holds partnering workshops with DCC at the beginning and partway phases of its construction projects.

“It makes a huge difference in the attitude, quality of the work and the level of co-operation,” said McLaren.

One of the major projects Bird secured in Ontario was the consolidation of the LCol. George Taylor Denison III Armoury in Toronto—a $36 million project.
