The Ontario College of Trades is going to review the journeyperson to apprentice ratios for precast concrete erectors, precast concrete finishers, cement concrete finishers and cement masons. Panelists will include David McKee of the Ontario Labour Relations Board plus Stanislav Panasyuk and Clive Thurston from the construction industry.

Two more groups of trades are entering into the ratio review phase at the Ontario College of Trades (OCOT).
The journeyperson to apprentice ratio review process will include Group A-3: Precast concrete erector; precast concrete finisher; Group A-4: Cement concrete finisher; cement mason.
The trades are part of the first wave of ratio reviews at OCOT, which represents more than 150 skilled trades in the construction, industrial, motive power and service sectors.
It was legislated in 2009 and formed as a response to one of the recommendations in the 2008 Compulsory Certification Project Review by Tim Armstrong. Among its mandates are ratio reviews and promoting the skilled trades to youth.
The review panel of Group A-3 will be made up of David McKee of the Ontario Labour Relations Board, Stanislav Panasyuk and Clive Thurston, both from the construction sector. The journeyperson to apprentice ratio is currently 1:1, 3:1. The deadline for written submissions is May 25 at 2 p.m. and the oral consultation is on June 14.

McKee will also serve on Group A-4’s review panel with Valerie Brennan and Larry Lineham, both from the construction sector.
The current journeyperson to apprentice ratio for cement concrete finisher is 1:1, 3:1 and for a cement mason it is 1:1, 4:1. The deadline for written submissions is May 25 at 2 p.m. and the date of the oral consultation is June 19.
