The Newfoundland and Labrador government has awarded a $10.6 million contract to Bluebird Investments Ltd. for the construction of a youth treatment centre in Grand Falls-Windsor.
The Newfoundland and Labrador government announced Friday it has awarded a $10.6 million contract to Bluebird Investments Ltd. for the construction of a youth treatment centre in Grand Falls-Windsor.
The contract is for the construction of a one-storey, 2,065 square metre building to house and provide young people with mental health and addiction treatment services.
“The design and layout of the treatment centre includes three separate living quarters containing four bedrooms with private bathrooms, a kitchen and lounge area, school area, multipurpose room, physical fitness room and a dedicated space for overnight stays for visiting family,” the provincial departments of health and community services and transportation and works stated in a joint press release.
It will be located south of the Trans Canada highway at the intersection of Lincoln Road. Grand Falls-Windsor is about 260 kilometres by road east of Corner Brook.
The province initially announced plans for mental health treatment centres in both Grand Falls-Windsor and Paradise last August.
Last November, Urban Contracting (J.J. Walsh) Ltd. was awarded a $344,000 contract for the initial phase of the treatment centre in Paradise, west of St. John’s. That contract included abatement and disposal of hazardous materials, demolition of the former Paradise Elementary School and backfilling to level the site with materials suitable for further construction.
