Markham sewer project begins

Aecon Group Inc. has begun construction on a $60-million sewer project in Markham, Ontario, a joint venture with McNally International Inc.

TORONTO

Aecon Group Inc. has begun construction on a major sewer project in Markham, Ont.

The $60-million project, a joint venture with McNally International Inc. involves the construction of a 3.5-metre diameter tunnel to be built along 16th Avenue from Stone Mason Boulevard to east of Woodbine Avenue. Totaling 7.2 kilometres in length, the new Trunk Sewer will provide a connection to existing Trunk Sewers in the area and will allow for further development in the region.

This project is in addition to a $58-million contract won in 2001 to build the first phase of the project, completed in June 2003.

Construction is expected to completed by spring 2007.
