Kensington Hospice Expansion Project

Scope

Renovation of a medical facility in Toronto, Ontario. Completed plans call for the renovation of a 13,478-square-foot, nine-room medical facility. Kensington Hospice Expansion project site is located within the current Kensington Gardens Long-Term Care campus. Architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical interior and exterior building renovations are envisioned for 13,600 sf of the existing Ground Floor (semi-basement) level of Kensington Gardens, The area is currently used for Training, Storage, Laundry and Maintenance services. The Kensington Hospice Expansion project consists of the addition of 9 new resident rooms including support and administrative services in the existing facility. The existing adjacent exterior courtyard is to be enlarged and deepened and will include new retaining walls, landscaping, storm, sanitary and civil works. Work will be conducted within a fully occupied and functioning long-term care building. The work will be conducted in two phases. Phase 1 Decanting: includes interior renovations, relocations and refinishing of existing staff, training and service rooms, to be completed prior to the main expansion. Phase 2 Expansion: includes construction of 9 resident rooms, along with program and community areas, administrative offices and service rooms. The building façade will be reworked adjacent to the enlarged courtyard, including underpinning, shoring, extending the window openings, and modifying the brick and stone elements of the exterior.
