McMaster headed to MCAA competition

ROCKVILLE, MD —The McMaster Student Chapter of the Mechanical Contractors Association (MCA) Hamilton are the only Canadian team that will compete in the 2014-2015 MCA of America (MCAA) Student Chapter Competition finals in Maui, Hawaii.

The Hamilton students earned the right to go to the finals after competing at the 2014 Student Chapter Summit in Jersey City, NJ, on Oct. 11, 2014. The team received one of the four best scores out of 24 entries.

The other teams are: the Rocky Mountain Chapter of MCAA at Colorado State University; the University of Washington Mechanical Contractors Student Chapter; and the Wentworth Chapter of the Mechanical Contractors Association of America.

This year’s project involved the construction of the Segundo Student Services Center (SSC) on the campus of the University of California at Davis. The facility is to be designed and built to meet LEED NC Gold standards.

Judging took place on Jan. 8 at MCAA’s office in Rockville, MD.  The final four presentations will take place at MCAA 2015 in Maui on March 10.

The judges of the finals competition will choose the first and second place winners who will receive cash prizes of $5,000 and $2,500, respectively.  The other two finalists will each receive $1,000.

The competition results will be announced at the Annual Awards of Excellence Ceremony on March 11.
