CCA supports corporate social responsibility policy

The Canadian Construction Association (CCA) has taken another step towards embracing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

During its recent fall board meeting in Thunder Bay, Ont. the CCA, at the request of the Business and Market Development Committee, endorsed the following policy statement: "CCA recognizes that corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a rapidly evolving issue and affects companies differently depending on their size, location and specialization.

"CCA recognizes the importance of CSR, and encourages companies to voluntarily undertake initiatives that enable them to operate in an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable manner."

According to Stephen Coote, who chairs the task force on CSR, "At our last business marketing committee (in Prince George, B.C.), we affirmed that CCA has a role to play in the area of CSR."

It also identified that there are a multitude of services that CCA could provide in this area and that the CCA could provide educational resources on CSR on an ongoing basis.

More details on this will likely be presented by the task force in March at the CCA’s annual board meeting in New Orleans.

"A resource on CSR would be a valuable and tangible example," Coote added.

The task force was created in March 2014, based on the determination that CSR is an important issue for the non-residential construction industry.
