SUDBURY, ONT. — An educational endowment fund established by the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) has reached a new milestone, the foundation chair announced.
The Carole and George Fletcher Foundation is raising money for the 25 for 25 Building Forward Campaign to establish endowed funds at each of Ontario’s 25 colleges. The goal was to reach $1 million.
"Hitting the $1-million goal has expanded the bursary program’s reach and has enhanced support for engineering technology education," said David Tsang, chair of the foundation, in a media statement issued March 27.
Tsang and fellow foundation trustees launched the campaign with the goal of creating a sustainable $1,000 annual award for students enrolled in a recognized engineering or applied science program who best exemplify integrity and professionalism. To support the bursary program, the trustees embarked on a strategy to create a $40,000 endowed fund at every Ontario college. To achieve this goal, at least $1 million would have to be raised through the support of donors.
Cambrian College in Sudbury, Ont. is the most recent college to bolster its endowment fund to reach the $40,000 mark with the support of 25 for 25 Building Forward Campaign donations.
"Awards like these give students a real boost, offering financial aid and industry encouragement that helps them to focus on their studies and achieve their goals," said Bill Best, the college’s president, in a statement.
The Carole and George Fletcher Foundation was created more than 25 years ago in honour of OACETT past-president George Fletcher.
