PETERBOROUGH, ONT. —A new program is being offered by Fleming College at the Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre (KTTC) that will train students in the growing field of construction management.
Construction Engineering Technician is a four-semester diploma program, explains a release from the College, and will be offered starting in September 2016 at the Sutherland Campus in Peterborough.
It will examine sustainable design principles and provide students with the technical skills and knowledge required to assist in the management of all phases of construction projects in the residential, small commercial and industrial sectors.
"This new program is a great addition to our school’s offerings. It gives prospective students a wider array of choices in planning their future in the trades," said Maxine Mann, dean, School of Trades and Technology at Fleming, in a statement.
Students will learn about onsite building engineering and safety, building codes, quality control testing of various building materials and energy and environmental technologies. They will also have the opportunity to use specialized construction management estimating software.
"The program allows students to choose a variety of pathways that build on their individual strengths and that best suit their career goals," added Mann.
The program has been designed in collaboration with George Brown College. The two colleges plan to enable Fleming graduates to enter directly into the third year of George Brown’s Construction Engineering Technology program and subsequently into the Bachelor of Applied Technology degree program.
