HALIFAX — Pieridae Energy Limited has announced the conclusion of the Goldboro LNG Project Special Needs Collective Agreement, which was reached and ratified by the Nova Scotia Construction Labour Relations Association (CLRA) and by 85 per cent of the building trades expected to be involved in the project’s construction.
The agreement meets the requirements of the Construction Projects Labour Relations Act. It was reached Oct. 10, 2016 and ratified and signed as of May 3.
The agreement must go to the labour board for final approval. In the near future, Pieridae and the CLRA will request that the labour board declare the agreement to be a project agreement and declare the project agreement in effect for the Goldboro LNG facility project.
The agreement provides Pieridae with a higher degree of cost certainty for the construction phase, notes a media statement issued May 5, and reduces the overall risk for Pieridae in planning the construction of the Goldboro LNG facility. Pieridae is a privately controlled Canadian corporation based in Calgary focused on the integrated LNG sector.
The Goldboro LNG facility is located at the Goldboro Industrial Park in Goldboro, N.S. It will be able to produce up to 10-million tonnes per year of LNG. The facility will be able to handle LNG carriers up to 250,000 m3. Commercial operations are expected to begin in 2021 or 2022. Capital expenditures are said to be in a range from $5 to $10 billion.
The Goldboro LNG project consists of an LNG processing facility, storage tanks and marine works. Project components also include an access road, berthing for tug boats and a construction jetty.
The natural gas supply feeding the project is to be delivered via the existing Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline, located directly adjacent to the project. The target markets for the LNG produced at the Goldboro LNG project are Europe, South America and Asia.
